SEXY PLUS SIZE DINNER DATE OUTFIT
Growing up I was usually called Agbani after the famous Agbani Darego who won miss world in 2001 because i was too skinny.
I was usually told to eat more because I was just too skinny and needed more flesh to look good. At a point I even aspired to be a world famous pageant queen just like Agbani. (This is a story for another day).
When i eventually began to add up weight, i was pretty excited that no one would call me “LEPA” anymore. Little did I know that with my newly added weight came lots of unsolicited advice and a new nickname “OROBO”.
At first I was a bit confused because most of the same people calling me OROBO in my environment then were still the same people who encouraged me to eat up and add “some flesh”.
I grew older and became this chubby little girl and now a fat lady. Although a lot of people tell me that I am far from being called Fat or plus size. So I said to myself, If i am neither FAT nor SLIM, that means i am an in-betweenie.
However, since there is no actual body size called In-between, I choose to stick with being called PLUS SIZE.
BODY SHAMING
Currently the society regards being slim as being sexy and all that and for those of us with “Extras” as being not so attractive. I constantly have people tell me all sorts ranging from being down right insensitive to insulting. Body shaming has become a major issue in our society and no it doesn’t affect only “FAT” people.
DEALING WITH BODY INSECURITY
We are humans and like it or not what we see and hear affects us in one way or another until you decide not to let what others say define you. I fell a victim and hated my body so much but eventually I learnt to love my body just the way it is.
One way i got over feeling insecure about my body was by listening to Alessia Cara scars to your beautiful (this song is just heaven sent) and reading Beautiful You: A daily guide to radical self acceptance by Rosie Molinary, you can find this book here
BRINGING SEXY BACK
After learning to love myself again, I also realized the need to BRING SEXY BACK. If you have ever dealt with body shaming and insecurity, you would know that at a point you feel you are neither beautiful nor sexy. Such feelings can come with you avoiding public places and events especially DATES.
SO HERE I AM WITH TIPS ON WHAT TO WEAR TO A DINNER DATE AS PLUS SIZED WOMAN.
DRESS FOR YOUR BODY TYPE: Always ensure you dress appropriately for your body type, I have a detailed post on tips on how to dress as a plus size woman, click here.
THINK COMFORTABLE: One disastrous way to ruin your dinner date is by wearing uncomfortable clothes that would end up making you think more of how to go home and get out of your clothes than enjoy your time out with your date. Wear clothes that are not too tight, after all you are going to definitely eat something on your date, you definitely wont want something that will end up suffocating you. Depending on your sense of style, you can totally make a denim look to a dinner date work, find the perfect denim for your body type here.
WORK THAT BODY BABY GIRL!
Plus size women have very unique body features, learn to make them work in your favour.
ACCENTUATE YOUR CURVES: One beautiful thing that comes with being plus size is having killer curves. Learn to let your curves work for you. Do not hesitate to show it off in form fitting dresses just like i did. Most plus size people I know use a corset/waist trainer to accentuate their waist. I personally detest them because the very first time i wore one i felt like i was suffocating and since then i dumped it in my wardrobe( well, until today i brought it out for blog picture purpose).
SHOW SKIN IN A CLASSY WAY: Emphasis on the word “classy”. Show some skin but make it classy and not anything ratchet/over the top. One of my favourite way to show some skin is with my legs, so I love to wear a lot of minis.
follow these sexy plus size dinner date outfit tips and you would be amazed at the number of lovely compliments you would get on your date. If you are still a bit confused about not having anything to wear, then check my award Winning(in my head) post on how to never say you have nothing to wear ever again.
