Vacations are so important, I can’t even begin to explicably explain this. Taking a break from your normal everyday life can be such a boost to your mental and physical health. It’s one of the best ways to deal with stress and enjoy life’s little pleasures. Hence you see why one should take a vacation at least once every year. Sadly, that’s not the case with many people. Some haven’t had a vacation in 3-5 years because no matter how hard they work, the figures just don’t add up right and by the time it’s summer, they can’t afford to take that trip they have been dying to and probably show off their summer body. If this is you, trust us we know that feeling which is why as summer 2018 approaches it’s end, we have partnered with TravelStart to show you how to save for your next vacation.
3 Tips On How To Save For Your Next Vacation
Embrace Frugal Living:
Now just before you scream ugh, here they go again and close this post, frugal living isn’t a death sentence, it can actually be fun if done rightly and it’s one of the best ways on how to save more and spend less. And no we are not going to tell you to never shop again or become a recluse. Frugal living can be imbibed into our daily lives without it looking like an unhappy chore. A little tweak here and there and you will be glad you did by the time you are lounging in Santorini or dancing in the Safaris. Here are some lifestyle tweaks to help you spend less and save more
- Make your own coffee: C’mon it only takes about five minutes to brew your own coffee, so why spend $5 dollars a day at Starbucks when you can easily save that same amount in 5 minutes by simply brewing your own coffee. Do I hear you say it might not taste so good, of course it might not especially if you have never brewed a coffee all your life. However there are tons of videos on YouTube on how to brew your coffee, so I encourage you to watch them, try them out and you will have yourself to thank for saving a few dollars and learning a new skill( the art of coffee making).
- Use your car less: Yes you heard right. That you own a car doesn’t mean you should drive every time you need to go out. Sometimes just walk! Studies have proven that long walks are a form of exercise and help you stay fit. So instead of running a membership card at your favourite gym you can simply work out by taking long walks to the grocery store or even to work. This way you save gym fees, stay healthy and also cut down on petrol and car maintenance costs. That definitely looks to me like a win win.
- Thrift shop: I told you I will never tell you not to shop again. What’s life without shopping? I actually don’t have an answer but here’s the thing, so it’s already proven that we love to shop, so why not just do that but rather than walk into high end stores, you can walk into thrift shops and snag up same high end clothes for far less. If you didn’t already know, thrift shopping is the new cool.
Save Save and Save Again
Perhaps the most important tip. A lot of people haven’t cultivated good saving habits but if you must take that trip, you have to learn how to save money for travel.
It’s the 21st century, saving doesn’t have to be such a big deal. You can use digital piggy banks to automatically deduct specific amounts each month and save for you. I find this to be one of the most comfortable ways to save. I used to belong to the class of people who mentally finish spending money even before it comes. Hence when the money finally comes, I spend it without giving a hoot, at least until my bank account goes red and I realize I am broke again and worst still, I realize I didn’t save nothing.
So start developing a saving habit if you didn’t already have one. Plan your monthly budget, calculate your expenses and then put what’s left into savings. Also remember to save up all the money garnered from living a frugal life. We advise you create a separate savings account for your travels.
Plan Ahead
It’s never too early to start planning. So rather than wait until the dying minute, start planning your trip early, this way you can easily find cheap flights to your destination be it New York or Dubai, you can easily get cheap flights to Dubai if you plan ahead and book on time.
Planning ahead also gives you ample time to research on your destination, find out your flight routes, cheap hotels or Airbnb, local means of transportation, local dinning and a lot more ways to save more and even find affordable summer destinations.
Remember those who fail to plan, plan to fail. Hence this is a vital tip on how to save for your next vacation.
