10 MUST-WATCH NIGERIAN WEB SERIES
If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon of watching Nigerian web series, sorry but i have to know which rock you have been sleeping under. Because you are totally missing out!
I am a Nigerian web series fanatic. infact, if there was an association of Nigerian web series fanatics, I will be in top 10. Right after Sisi Yemmie and Dami Alabi.
Don’t blame me, blame it on the awesome story lines, top-notch cinematography and most especially the ability to watch from anywhere at anytime.
[bctt tweet=”If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon of watching Nigerian web series, sorry but i have to know which rock you have been sleeping under. Because you are totally missing out!” username=”gyifted”]A few of you have jumped on this bandwagon with me after reading some of my Nigerian web series reviews and have asked me to suggest more amazing Nigerian web series, so I present to you in no particular order, my top ten must watch Nigerian web series.
THIS IS IT
Scratch that line that says in no particular order. Because I would be lying if i say this isn’t my most loved Nigerian web series. I can’t deny it, I am totally taken with this series or maybe it’s my crush on the hero that’s completely clouding my brain. But either ways this series is amazing (with the extra gggg’s). It’s a two part series chronicling the life of a newly married young couple in their first year. Apart from how adorable the couple are and the sparking chemistry between them, the story-line is a great one.
Each episode tackled one or more marital issues ranging from insecurity to finances and even their sexual lifestyle. If you are big on romance and definitely want to learn a thing or two about love, then this is a must watch for you.
However you have to be patient as the first few episodes didn’t really cut the mark as an interesting one but as you watch on, you will eventually find this series to be everything and more!. Sadly, this series has been discontinued and we only have two seasons to watch but trust me when i say it’s worth your data. This is it is by LowlaDee Tv.
HUSBANDS OF LAGOS
This remains one of the best series from IrokoTv. Husbands of Lagos is an intelligently scripted work that has been brilliantly executed. This series follows the lives of seven men and the women in their lives. I absolutely love watching husbands of Lagos, it’s hilarious and my favourite female characters are Esohe and Sikira.
Sikira is played by the incredibly talented Bisiola Aiyeola and my favourite husband is Livinus aka Oga Livi, played by Uche oduputa. Unlike most series on this list, this isn’t available on Youtube as IrokoTv runs a subscription based platform which costs N3000 annually, which to me is a good bargain because they have a large directory of Nigerian movies.
SKINNY GIRL IN TRANSIT
Make way for the crowned Queen of Nigerian web series. This is a general fave and it’s followers don’t play. Skinny girl in transit is an Ndani Tv classic produced by the genius that’s Abimbola Craig who also doubles as the main character Tiwalade ( i bet a lot of you sgit lovers didn’t know this). Skinny girl in transit just as its name implies is a series based on the live of a plus size woman; her battle with societal conceptions, men/love, work and not forgetting an overly dramatic mother and a mildly jealous sister.
This series has been on for four seasons, yes that’s how good it is. This series has definitely got the crown for Nigerian web series with the largest fan base and it’s fan are totally committed. We are super excited because in season 5 we get to have “our” dream wedding and we so can’t wait,
RUMOUR HAS IT
This is also from Ndani Tv and is also produced by Abimbola Craig, see why i call her a genius? She produced two of the biggest web series in the Nigerian movie scene. Rumour has it is a beautiful story that has moved from the live of Obi, its main character in season 1 to Dolapo as its main character in season 2.
This is a personal fave and I would have been ranting about what an awesome movie it is if the season finale of season 2 didn’t end in the most disappointing way ever. Anyways we are eagerly going to wait for season three to see if its terrible ending gave room for something more captivating.

SHUGA NAIJA
This series has a cult following and I don’t mean that literally. MTV Shuga is an amazing series on the lives of young people and their decisions, mistakes and consequences of their actions. If you didn’t already know, the award-winning Lupita got one of her major breaks on this MTV series.
If you are wondering what Shuga which is largely an African based drama is doing on a list for Nigerian web series. It’s sixth season is titled Mtv Shuga Naija and is set against the backdrop of Nigeria, with a full Nigerian cast and setting. I haven’t seen this season but if you want to read reviews, check out my blogger friend Amaka.
OUR BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING
How would you feel if your best friend wakes up one day and suddenly gets a wedding ring even though he has no one to give the ring to?. Well that’s what the ladies in this series had to deal with. So through out this series we see a lot of matchmaking, dates gone wrong and secrets revealed. This series is by Red TV and is an amazing one.
GIDI UP
Another Ndani TV’s classic and even though fans have been left hanging in the air over the question of if there’s a new season coming out or if it has been discontinued, we still can’t help but give this series all the accolades it deserves.
This was one of Ndani TV’s first series and it remains a crowd favourite. Hopefully, they will see how much we need a continuation and bless us with a new season.
LOOSING CONTROL
This used to be a personal fave until i got irritated by the too many switches. I love to see good story progression but hate when in the cause of this progression they cut off principal characters without any given reason. Which is the same grudge I hold against Rumour has it.
But don’t let that deterred you, Loosing control is an amazing series and if you are a sucker for good acting, then you will be thrill. This movie sealed my love for Mary Lazarus whose characterization as a man threw me off-balance. In Falz voice, I never expected it. Loosing control is on Iroko Tv and just like Husbands of Lagos, requires a subscription to watch.
EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN
This series is fairly new and not so popular. I just started watching it a few days back and so far it’s been a good watch. It shows the struggles of three people to be unique in a society that questions everything you do. This series is on YouTube @4tiersNigeria
INSPECTOR K
The last but not the least on my list is Inspector K. This series is centered around the live of a wacky inspector who uses unconventional howbeit hilarious ways to solve crime. I am new to this series already and still catching up. It has two seasons already and is a crowd fave. You can find it on Red TV
Corper Shun
As I type this, i am making a mental note to add corper shun to my weekly watch list. it’s the new series on the block, So this doesn’t count as number eleven because I haven’t seen it but I’ve heard good reviews and I am excited to watch and learnt a thing or two about being a corp member, as i will be joining that train soon. Corper Shun is on Accelerate TV
which series on this list is your favourite and which are you yet to see?

I find it hard to watch series???.I’ve heard alot about Skinny girl in transit and rumour has it but I really can’t bring myself to watch them. My sister loves “husbands of lagos”. I think I’m going to try them out especially the “corper shun”. Thanks for this mami
Haha, I have someone that has “this it it” as the favourite! It’s mine too, I find it more relatable and there are lessons I could pick from it. Husbands of Lagos!i could watch again from the beginning if you ask me to, Livinus is my fave though. Skinny girl in transit, say no more, with a person as fine as Mide, who wouldn’t watch??? Can’t wait for the next season!!
I’ve seen a little of sugar and rumour has it.
the others? nope. I just hear of them. They look interesting though, I should see some of them.
These web series are just a great idea, because most people have given up on watching nollywood movies, but they are stepping up in their game and I love the fact that I could watch these from anywhere!
I do web series but the thought of my subscription keeps me in check,LOL. Not wanting to be an addict does that too. But this review just gave me sight to some others I’d need to check out.
Honestly, This Is It is still my favourite ever, SGIT is also good. I haven’t seen most on this list.
Try and watch The Men’s Club it is also produced by Red Tv
