How to Have a Great Christmas 2017 to Always Remember
Christmas is such a beautiful period and I almost wish it will never end. The love, laughter, harmony, food and bonding that comes with Christmas is amazing. I usually spend my Christmas at home with my family, cooking, eating, entertaining visitors and watching Christmas movies. It’s usually difficult for me to go out on Christmas day. This is because most public places will be very crowded and I am no fan of crowded places, and no I am not agoraphobic.
When i was younger, I believed Christmas came with blessings because of the Christmas clothes, shoes and gifts i got. Growing up some of that mentality changed and now I see Christmas as a time to celebrate, love, reflect, rediscover purpose and most especially give. I have never spent a Christmas alone and i find it weird when i hear people say they spent their Christmas on their couch all alone. Some others just say the festivities are not for them while some just don’t see anything special about Christmas.
Well, I think everyone has to enjoy Christmas period. Even if you don’t believe in what it stands for, you can enjoy it as a holiday. Therefore, I am sharing tips on how to have a great Christmas 2017.
8 tips on how to have a great Christmas
Count your blessings:
Christmas is a great time to be grateful for overcoming life hassles and most especially for being alive. So, take out time to count your blessings and be grateful for them. A simple way I do this is by writing a gratitude list. I do this by writing down all the good things that happened this year; major accomplishments, crossing goals and so on. This just helps to remind me of the goodness of God and teaches me to remain grateful no matter what.
Have a positive mindset:
As the year comes to an end, it’s easy for us to let the bad outweigh the good. I mean we tend to remember those things we are yet to get and this can weigh us down, make us gloomy and unenthusiastic about all the festivities and the new year to come. At moments like this, my gratitude list come in handy in reminding me of what i have got to be grateful for and invariably, why i should have a positive mindset towards the coming year. You should too!
Declutter:
Let of everything you don’t really need. Things like old clothes, shoes and even unhealthy personal traits and habits. I mean let go and live. If you need tips on how to declutter and breathe then click Here.
Give:
Christmas is the season to show love. Remember the products from your decluttering? Put them to good use by sending to charity or even giving to those around you. You don’t have buy expensive hampers to show you care. You can d-i-y gifts or find affordable gift ideas. If you want me to do a last minute gift guide, let me know in the comment section.
Spend time with loved ones:
I cannot over emphasize how important it is to spend Christmas with your loved ones. Especially if you want to learn how to have a great Christmas 2017 to remember. Family and friends always bring life, joy and loads of fun. I can’t imagine life without loved ones. They bring a spark, they add a flavour and always make Christmas time extra special. Try to spend time with loved ones, travel if have to or if not then go modern. and by that i mean put technology to good use. Perhaps you can’t afford to go home, you can still get that Christmas charm family and friends bring. Just turn on your electronic device and facetime/skype. It’s pretty simple.
Cook up a storm:
This is one of the things I detest during Christmas. Mehn, I remember all the sweating I did in the kitchen every Christmas day. My aunt who i grew up with would cook up a storm and i don’t mean that literally. She would make different soups, stew, jollof rice, fried rice, salad and the list goes on. If you are the cooking type then this can be a fun activity to carry out on Christmas day. Cook something delicious for you, for your family and friends. You can find various Nigerian food recipes Here, Here and Here.
Eat out:
If you are the type that hates to sweat it out on a Christmas morning, you are the reason why restaurants and cafes exists. Take yourself out, buy something sumptuous and head home to devour it. I advice you head home because of the crowd but if you can cope, then eat out.
Plan your 2018:
Christmas isn’t all about food and fun. Its also a time to reflect and make changes. Don’t make the same mistakes you made this year again. Plan your 2018, Write down your 2018 goals. Be sure to write realistic goals so you don’t end up always dreaming without taking action. This is the perfect time to ensure you play your own part in ensuring your 2018 would be great.
Love yourself some more:
This wasn’t part of the list but i just felt it would make a great “extra”. Love yourself and love yourself and love yourself again because no one can do that better than you.
Don’t let all the goodness of this period pass you by!

I can’t even explain how I spend my Christmas. But it ends up being a quiet one. Maybe this year would be different. I wouldn’t dare eat out though. The human traffic will be alarming.

Lol @ human traffic.
Quiet or not, I hope you have a really good time.
When I read Christmas posts it just makes me so happy because I love this season. Though a lot of things that caused me to love this time of the year have changed (like the certainty of harmattan and Turbo movie i.e. Jingle All the Way), still this time of the year is beautiful regardless!
From your list I think I’ll just declutter sometime and then take my cousins out for some ice-cream. Planning towards the future sickens me, I don’t know why.

Hey Oluchi, I don’t even know what to say about the harmattan. Having to deal with rain and sun just spoils the Christmas fun.

Feels a little weird commenting on this seeing as Christmas is over and we’re already in the New Year but these are good ways to unwind not only during Christmas but general holidays. Given is one of the reasons for the season so yes to giving out more and cooking up a storm while one bonds with friends and family.
