Last weekend, I packed my backpack, called my best friend, Nneoma and together with my dear friend, Mercy of thatgiftedgirl, we set out for what I can best describe as a very spontaneous trip that turned out to be the best thing that happened to me in April 2021.
Nike Guest House Osogbo is a hidden gem in the heart of Osun state. It is one of the best budget-friendly vacation spots in the southwestern part of Nigeria. The keyword being budget-friendly because our entire trip around Osogbo cost about 25-30k Naira per person. Crazy right? Yeah!
HOW TO GET TO NIKE GUEST HOUSE OSOGBO.
If you are coming from Lagos, you can board a car/bus from either Oshodi bus terminal or Ojota park. On average, transportation cost within the range of 2500 – 4000 Naira depending on which you go for, either bus, which is cheaper or Sienna which is more pricey.
The journey from Lagos to osogbo took about 5 hours, but it took us just three hours on our return. I guess it depends on how fast the driver is but for clarity, google maps states that it’s approximately 3 hr 49 min (226.3 km) via Expressway1/Lagos – Ojoo Expy/E1. However, the second route shown takes about 4 hr 38 min (260.8 km) via Expressway1/Lagos – Ojoo Expy/E1 and Ibadan-Oyo Rd.
While it’s possible to drive by yourself to Osogbo using the above google maps directions, I strongly advise against it given the current state of severe insecurity, we are experiencing in Nigeria. I think it’s safer to go with commercial drivers who ply the route frequently and probably knows all the dangerous routes to avoid.
When we arrived in Osogbo, we didn’t alight until the driver reached the last bus stop, then we took bikes to Ofatedo, which is where the Nike guest house is located. The bike ride cost N200 per person.
Exploring The Grounds of Nike Guest House Osogbo.
The Nike guest house osogbo, is located in a serene place called Ofatedo. The moment you enter the guest house, you will feel all the weight of Lagos stress dropping off your shoulders. At least, that’s how I felt.
The Nike Guest House Osogbo feels like home. There are two separate room options. The first building has rooms that cost 7000 Naira per night. As usual, no more than two persons per room. While, the second building, the rooms there go for 5000 Naira per night. The difference is the 7k room has air conditioners while the 5k room doesn’t, however, there are ceiling fans.
We settled for the 7K room because we didn’t come all the way from Lagos to come and sweat. Lol.
There are two different room patterns; the ones with the bathroom en-suite and the ones with the bathroom situated outside the room. Whichever, you settle for is fine. However, my travel buddies and I, opted for the ones with bathroom en-suite. You also get access to the common rooms, dining section and the most beautiful part of all, the garden!
The guest house is very afro-centric, so don’t feel surprised when you find out the curtains, duvets and chairs are made from Batik and Aso-oke materials which I believe are handmade at the Nike Art Workshop, Osogbo.
We had breakfast in the garden for a reasonable sum of 1500 Naira per person. While dinner costs 2500 Naira per person.
I really had a swell time staying at the Nike guest house, osogbo. We also visited the Nike Art gallery, osogbo and the osun-osogbo sacred groove. I will share details about them in my next blog post.
For now, you can live vicariously through the video below, which shows all the fun we had at the Nike Guest house, Oshogbo. I didn’t take a lot of pictures which is why the pictures on this blog post don’t do justice to the Nike Guest House. However, via the video, you will see how truly lovely this place is.
This trip was put together by my friend, Mercy. She runs a travel company and is very good at planning budget-friendly trips for travel enthusiasts. Check out her page @thatgiftedgirl_ or @creatingwithtgg on Instagram.
