TWICE A BRIDE BY TOPE OMAMEGBE: The Journey

When I started reading this book Twice A Bride By Tope Omamegbe, I felt it will probably be like the regular. A story on rape that probably had no depth and doesn’t do justice to what rape victims undergo. But as I read on I found myself eagerly flipping through every page as this book held me spellbound. And I am happy to say at the end, I had learnt some valuable lessons on love, sacrifice, trauma, faith and most of all, forgiveness.

A BRIEF SUMMARY OF TWICE A BRIDE

Twice a bride by tope omamegbe

The book Twice A Bride by Tope Omamegbe is centered around a girl Wale who was raped back in the university and is now married to her rapist who doesn’t recognize her and although he is now a changed man, She goes all in, hell-bent on destroying their marriage, his life, reputation and family.

The story begins in a first person narrative flashback as Wale takes us back to the day she was raped. Four years later she is standing in front of her rapist and is to be married to him. She goes ahead with the marriage, ready to serve her husband cum rapist Alex a dose of his own medicine and make the marriage a living hell for him  until in a sudden twist of fate she finds himself struggling to swim against the tide she created but is it too late?

    MY THOUGHTS

I was going to title this post as would you marry a rapist? But I thought against it as it’s too revealing. The author did a great job with this book. The plot was well structured, dialogue was beautiful and suspense was present. This Story was highly creative and Educative. The only hiccups I had with this book is editing. I found a few typographical errors while reading. Other than that I found this book to be a very educative and entertaining book. Her characters were easy to understand as she provided a motive for every action.

What will you do if your Husband to be turn out to be your rapist

Wale Is an amazing character. Oh I love how she transitioned from naive to the revenge seeker blinded by rage, to the mother etc. Her character was a real eye opener on the psychological effects of rape. I have always found story tellers to be mild on the topic of rape. Most of them do not take the time to research on the traumatic effects of rape and it is rather disheartening that they do not.

Having almost been raped by a friend, which i shared in my when friends turn monsters post, I know how much that single encounter made me lose trust in friendship. Not to talk about someone who was actually raped.

On every line, I saw Wale’s pain written out, I felt it. I don’t know if I would have been consumed by a blind-less quest for revenge like she did but I probably would give the circumstances.

Alex on the other hand reflects what I would like to refer to as a Reborn man. All traces of the alcohol, drug addicted rapist are gone and I can’t help but fall in love with the man he has become, with his new-found love with Christ, with his willingness to take whatever Wale does to him as perchance for his sins.

Why You Should Read This Book

Because it is a major eye opener especially if you are faith-based. I learnt a few things about faith and redemption from this book. I learnt about love, forgiveness and sacrifice. But most importantly I learnt to be assertive, proactive, to speak up and to ensure no matter what comes my way, I should still hold my head up high. I also got an answer to a question I have been pondering on “if giving one’s life to Christ erases Karma/consequences of our actions while sinners
